Goal 2 Structure and sediment composition of Babitonga Bay
Identify the morphological response and vulnerability of the Bay in face of climate change. All bays in Brazil are facing the real threat of sea level rise and it is therefore crucial to identify if these environments are already undergoing changes, or predict future impacts. Mapping the historical evolution of the bathymetry can be used to 2.1) understand how these confined environments are responding to mean sea level rise; and 2.2) calibrate numerical models to predict possible future morphological changes under different mean sea level rise scenarios. The present project is implementing this approach, which will provide local authorities with crucial information for decision making.
